Could there be external forces behind making it big time in the America music industry?
If you followed 'America's Got Talent' this year, you may have heard of 'The Craig Lewis Band'. This duet were some of the most vocally talented musicians I've ever heard. Although initially, I believed they were amateurs who were seeking to make it big time- I soon discovered that they have attempted to do so for years; with works with media mogul Tyler Perry. So why haven't I heard of them before?
So much soul in their voices.
Indeed, one might claim that the reason that I've never of heard of them before is because of their preference for gospel and contemporary R&B music, two genres I'm not particularly fond of and aren't the most popular in modern mainstream music. I disagree.
It seems that in present day, the music industry of singers places heavy focus on visuals equally to vocals. Charisma is also a motivating factor. Vocal talent just isn't enough anymore. Due to advancements in musical technology, many popular music artists in modern times sound amazing on record but they simply fall short in live performances. Quite often, some notes would be off key or the flair and magic of the piece in the recording would be absent. There is also luck to be placed into consideration for those who wish to make in the big time; being at the right place at the right time. An example would be Ed Sheeran, who was homeless before becoming widely recognised for his talent.
No, I am not claiming that all of the biggest artists have no vocal talent or are all of them are popular due to their appearances; it is my strong belief that due the sheer amount of talented singers, there are external forces at work. This is particularly true on the Korean music industry, which will be explored in more depth next week.
