Music, can be really powerful. It could cause great impact on listeners' mood, thought and even act. Ever heard a piece that just made you cry? There is a song named ‘Gloomy Sunday’ that gives a dramatic demonstration on this statement.
This song is also well known as the “Hungarian Suicide Song”. It was composed by a Hungarian pianist and composer, named Rezső Seress and published in 1933. Based on the great sadness of the tune, poet László Jávor added lamentable lyrics for the song after he broke up with his fiancée.
There have been urban legends regarding the song over years alleging with people who were feeling down and even committed suicides after listen to this song. Reports in the 1930s associated at least 19 suicides in USA and Hungary with regard to the song "Gloomy Sunday". More ironically, in 1968, the composer also committed suicide thirty five years after he wrote this song.
