Malaysia is a multi-cultural country which mainly
consists of Malay, Chinese, and Indian. The most famous thing about Malaysia is
food, especially when we talk about the food in Penang. However, they are not
doing so well in music, they only accounted for one percent of total Asian
sales in 2014 according to The Statista Portal.

I believe there are a few reasons why they are not improving and will probably get worse in the future. Firstly,
it is because of the different races and too much focus on their own ethnicity.
For example, a Malay most unlikely listen to Chinese song or write a Chinese
song and vice versa, people tend to work in their comfort zone. Besides, the
market is too limited because majority of the Malaysian are Malay, they only
targets at people who speaks their language like Indonesian and Bruneian. This
has causes the limited revenues they can make in a year. Lastly, most of the
Malaysian singer and bands are moving overseas in order to be more successful.
These are my reasons why Malaysia music industry fail to be at top.
