'Absolute Music' Documentary Short.

ISYS: 'Absolute Music' Documentary

Ah, our journey finally comes to an end. This video is the final part of our project and we have chosen to do a movie trailer/documentary hybrid, combining both elements.

Neither I or any member of the ISYSymphony has never edited or created a documentary although I have paid close attention to documentaries; their music choice, editing style and use of media. Documentaries use plenty of media from still images to videos to accompany the narrator or the interviewee. Unfortunately, we did not have a plentiful amount of media at our disposal and the editing time to make that possible would be extremely time consuming. I tried my best to emulate the documentary style based on what I've watched in the past (e.g. a careful choice of music)

I was watching the latest Star Wars trailer and I decided to utilise some of their elements for our video (effectively paying an homage; the use of music and 'will we continue... what they've started'). I postponed the title frame from the start of the video to a few seconds into the video to maintain the audience's interest and focus on the artistic elements at the opening introduction (note the repeated use of rhetorical questions). The monochromatic colour in the introduction creates atmosphere of mystery and represents the duality of traditional 'classical' art music and machine (the piano keys and macbook keys). The metronome is used as a motif for time and the 'flow' of music.  'Seraphim Productions' refers to the pen name I used to use when I created videos and I decided to bring it back for this video because it felt more 'professional'.

Overall, we are quite satisfied with the final product especially with the time and resources at our disposal.
